Can’t let up

- Gerry Hale Gerry Hale is media relations co-ordinator of the Truro Bearcats junior A hockey club.

Workplace conditions are good. Productivity is up and the results are pleasing to all concerned.

Last week, the Bearcats lost a squeaker, then pulled off two wins. The team played well in all three.

Edmundston showed why they are the top- ranked team in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

The power play proved to be the deciding factor.

Truro played with the right intention for the full 60 minutes. They learned that mistakes, no matter the size, can be costly.

The Bearcats shut out the Crushers in the crucial matchup on Friday.

Truro took an early lead and that proved to be the difference in the outcome.

It was a scrappy game where both teams were looking for an edge.

The Bearcats found the way and deserved the win. It really helps when you don’t allow the opposition to score.

Against the visiting Campbellton Tigers, the Bearcats got the jump, then never took the foot off the pedal.

It was a scoring frenzy not often seen this year and one where the result was determined well before the final minutes.

Some players get rested and some got more playing time than usual. It was a good night for the Bearcats.

At the end of the day, the team wants to win all of its games.

That’s not going to happen but when you win two-of-three, it clearly makes things tough on those chasing.

Looking ahead

This week the team prepares for a pair of home games against divisional teams higher in the standings — both skilled and both capable of beating you.

Amherst is at the RECC Friday.

Truro has success against the Ramblers, perhaps embarrassing them in the last outing in Amherst.

The Ramblers will be intent on changing that.

Saturday, the Bearcats host the South Shore Lumberjacks. This will be their last regular season meeting, last chance for an edge.

Both games start at 7 p.m. The Bearcats are moving in the right direction with the right brand of hockey.

They take nothing for granted as they try to be the best they can be.

Join in on this stretch drive.
