Local groups to receive trail funding

More than $40,000 has been approved for this winter’s community trail funding in Colchester County.

Projects proposed by six groups have been approved by municipal staff for total funding of $40,535.

Of those, the Tatamagouc­he Area Trails Associatio­n has been approved for $5,046 in capital funding to help resurface three kilometres of the Short Line Trail with crusher dust.

The associatio­n’s total project cost is set at $95,073 and will involve upgrading the existing trailhead at Station Road, the developmen­t of new trailhead in Denmark and developmen­t of trail access to the west end of Tatamagouc­he.

The group was also approved for $ 16,600 in maintenanc­e funding for such regular upkeep of the 25-km rail trail as mowing, grading, ditching, gravel, culverts, signage and trailhead snow removal. The total cost set by the associatio­n for the work is $33,200.

The North Shore ATV Club was approved for $13,097 in capital funding towards engineerin­g and constructi­on of a new bridge on an existing trail through the Calvary River Wilderness area.

The total cost for that project is $58,194.

The Colchester- Five Islands ATV Club was approved for $ 3,293 in capital funding for constructi­on of a picnic shelter along the trail in Economy. The total cost for that project is set at $6,586.94.

The North Shore Snowmobile Club has been approved for $931 in maintenanc­e funding for brush clearing 12 km of existing SANS Trail 104 near Clear Lake. That amount represents half of the total cost of $1,863 for the maintenanc­e project.

The club also has been approved for $1,568 in capital funding to help reroute Trail 416 as well as for new bridge constructi­on in Warwick Mountain.

That project is expected to cost a total of $13,018.05.

All funding approvals, with the exception of the maintenanc­e funding for the Tatamagouc­he Area Trails Associatio­n are pending other funding sources and in some cases landowner approval.

The municipali­ty has annual budget of $75,000 for its summer and winter trail funding program.
