King’s County home a complete loss after Monday morning blaze
A Harrington Road home has been reduced to a shell of what it once was following a fire that broke out around 10 a.m. Feb. 26.
“It had an advancement on us. I was the first arriving here within a couple minutes of the call and it was already going through the roof,” said Jeff Martin, a deputy chief with the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department.
Kentville took command at the scene, and neighbouring departments from Waterville and New Minas offered support through the automatic aid agreement in place for structure fires.
There were no occupants in the home when firefighters arrived on scene, allowing the responding crews to focus on attacking the flames that had quickly spread through the split- level house.
“I do know she had one cat, but she couldn’t tell me whether it was in or out,” said Martin.
Thick smoke, at times dark, could be seen billowing from the home from Highway 101 and nearby communities while firefighters doused the flames. An aerial truck was called in to target the flames that broke through the roof.
“One hundred per cent of the home is impacted. What you can see here is just a shell,” said Martin.
“I would say it’s going to be a complete loss.”
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
