Twisters tear up floor at Maritime Meltdown

Truro’s cheerleaders gave their home fans plenty to shout about at the recent Maritime Meltdown competition at RECC.

The Truro Twisters laid claim to three titles at the two-day event, including the grand champion honour, while the rest of Truro All-star Cheer and Tumble’s entries collected five others. The grand champion award is presented to the team with the highest overall score, regardless of age or skill level.

Twisters also won the Senior Level 3 Division and picked up the nod as the event’s top Level 3 squad.

The competition, co-hosted by Dartmouth-based Extreme Athletics and Halifax Cheer Elite, attracted 89 teams from clubs across the province.

Truro Heatwave won the Youth level 1 category and their points total was enough to also nab the Level 1 crown while Truro Reign finished second in the Senior 1 Division.

Truro Chill came home third in Junior 2 and picked up an award for best choreography.

The event brought an end to a run which saw Truro’s teams compete on three consecutive weekends, including the weekend prior when they co-hosted the Central Nova Cheer Challenge at RECC with Kentville-based Valley Cheer Athletics.

The teams take a break until April 6 to 8 when Chill and Heatwave will compete at the Cheer Evolution National Championships in Niagara Falls, Ont. All four teams then cap their schedules with the Cheer Nova Scotia Provincials, slated for RECC Apr. 21 and 22.
