Ship’s Company receives four Merritt nominations

-

Only two days after launching its 2018 season, Ship’s Company Theatre is being recognized for some of its work in 2017.

Four artists have been nominated for Theatre Nova Scotia’s annual Robert Merritt Awards for their work on Ship’s Company productions last year.

Don Allison has been nominated in the male supporting actor category for his performance as George Salter in The Mystery Play, while Karen Bassett received in the female supporting actor category for her portrayal of Brown in Pugwash.

Also nominated for their work on The Mystery Play were Leigh Ann Vardy in the Outstanding Lighting Design category, and Sean Mulcahy in the Outstanding Scenic Design category.

“It’s always an honour, certainly,” said Ship’s Company artistic director Natasha Maclellan. “Even when it’s an individual getting the recognition rather than the company, it still reflects well on us, I think. I like knowing that people are capable of excellence when they work at Ship’s Company.

“I’m especially tickled for Don Allison, a Parrsboro native,” she added.

The Theatre Nova Scotia annual Robert Merritt Awards celebrate excellence in Nova Scotia’s professional theatre during the past year. Winners will be revealed at the awards gala on Monday, March 26 in Halifax at Casino Nova Scotia’s Schooner Room.
