Colchester Christian Academy settling into new Bible Hill learning environment
The start of March break puts everyone in a good mood.
The end of March break is what has Pauline Mackinnon excited.
Mackinnon, K4-K5 teacher at Colchester Christian Academy, is eager to begin teaching in a bright new classroom beginning next week.
CCA recently took over the East Court Road Elementary School building in Bible Hill after it was declared surplus by the school board.
“They wanted to surprise me, so they didn’t let me see this until it was done,” Mackinnon said, taking in the brightly decorated room.
“I think it’s breathtaking. There’s lots of opportunity for the children to move around and explore, and I love the windows. We even have our own bathroom. It will be amazing to teach in here. I feel so blessed, and I’m thankful to the wonderful team that put this together.”
There’s also much anticipation about having a gym, library space and an outdoor playground.
“I love teaching this age group,” Mackinnon added. “They’re so much fun, and excited to learn.”
There are currently 13 students in the K4-K5 classes.
Johanna Matthews, who has children attending the school, said the newly decorated room was the vision of a mother with an eye for interior design.
“When she saw the big windows and big open space here she suggested making this room an inspiration for the entire school,” she said.
“It’s a testament to vision and passion.”
Some rooms have only had a small amount of work done yet, but the attic has been insulated and a lot of drywall repair was completed.
Most of the work was done by volunteers and many items were donated, although much of the furniture is what was left behind when teachers moved out.
A grand opening and celebration of Colchester Christian Academy’s 40th year will be held in the school this fall.
