Truro Parks, Recreation and Culture is hosting the community’s Ninth Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The fun is set for Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Victoria Park.

This year the town is partnering with Peace by Chocolate and participating children will receive a Peace by Chocolate Easter egg.

“We listened to the feedback from last year and have incorporated suggestions into the 2018 planning of the annual Easter egg hunt so that older children had more of a challenge and exposure to Victoria Park,” said Ashley Simms, director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “I am very pleased we were able to work with Peace by Chocolate to provide the chocolate Easter eggs for this event. Their story is inspiring to all that hear it and we are proud to support their Canadian dreams.”

Tareq Hadhad’s family had owned a chocolate factory in Syria but due to the unrest, were forced to leave their homeland. They eventually settled in Antigonish, where they continue their work with Peace By Chocolate and have been heralded nationally as a major success story.

The event will feature the Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers in the lower park and new this year, the department has added an Easter-themed Scavenger Hunt for older children or families to complete.

The scavenger hunt also starts in the lower park. Children can also enjoy live music by Mini-musicians or get anairbrush tattoo done at one of the stations. Pictures with the Easter Bunny will be available, sponsored by Downtown Truro Partnership.

Tickets are again mandatory for children taking part and can be picked up from Douglas Street Recreation Centre, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or the Truro Library during normal operating hours.

If weather or ground conditions make it impossible to hold the hunt, children can redeem tickets for their chocolate Easter egg at Douglas Street Recreation Centre during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., March 26 to 30.
