“Junior” Smith Rufus Loughead

– age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at CEHHC, Truro, on March 10, 2018. Born December 2, 1935, to Smith and Hazel (Burgess) Loughead in Lower Truro.

Junior was known to most as being a quiet, soft-spoken man, who could fix just about anything that needed fixing. He enjoyed snowmobiling and watching baseball but he especially loved his little piece of heaven on earth, his cottage at Shortt’s Lake. Junior was a proud father and tried to instill many of his values in his kids. He was always there for his kids, whether it was those memorable driving lessons with Leanne or running Craig around to hockey. He loved being a grandfather and spent hours entertaining the girls when they were with him.

Junior was fortunate to love again when he found Helen; they made the most of their time together going to dances, music events and in the summers relaxing at the cottage. Junior was a mechanic and enjoyed working at Weatherbee’s Garage and Auto Glass, Pye Chev-olds and Lewis Auto Sales. He was a proud member of the Onslow-belmont Fire Brigade, the Lower Onslow United Church and a 26-year member of the Goodtime Seniors Dance Club. Junior is survived by his children, Craig (Tanya Creelman), Leanne (Mark Beaver); granddaughters, Noelle, Faith and Samantha; sister, Annie Mae Fields and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving mate, Helen, her daughter, Kathy Christensen; son, Douglas Neil and her grandchildren, Danielle and Josh (Natasha). Junior was predeceased by his wife, Kaye (Hanes); brothers, Homer, Eugene, Edgar and sister, Lillian.

There will be a celebration of Junior’s life Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Onslow-belmont Fire Hall between 2-5 pm. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Special thank you to all the health care providers at VON and Cedarstone Enhanced Care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by vis it ingwww.colc hester co mun ni ty. com.
