260-room luxury hotel to open at Nova Centre in Halifax.
The head of The Sutton Place Hotels will be in Halifax today to announce that his company will open a 260-room luxury hotel in the Nova Centre complex, Saltwire Network has learned.
Chairman and CEO Tom Gaglardi is perhaps best known to sports fans as the owner of the Dallas Stars NHL franchise, which he acquired in 2011.
He is also president of Northland Properties Corp., a familyowned company founded by his father Bob Gaglardi. Tom also serves as the president, CEO and chairman of Sandman Hotels, Inns & Suites, and CEO and chairman of Suites and Moxie’s Restaurants, LP.
The Vancouver businessman will be introduced to the city by the private-sector developer behind the Nova Centre project, Joe Ramia, president and CEO of Argyle Developments.
Premier Stephen Mcneil and Halifax Mayor Mike Savage are also slated to be on hand for the announcement taking place at the Halifax Convention Centre, which is also part of the Nova Centre.
Official invitations to the announcement were sent out this week but Ramia declined to comment when contacted Wednesday.
Nevertheless, according to the hotel company’s marketing in- formation, The Sutton Place Hotels has been carefully building a collection of luxury properties in North America.
The company’s website states that each Sutton Place hotel is distinctly different in style while offering elegance and exceptional service. The chain boasts handcrafted furnishings, silk tapestries, and premium bedding.
The Sutton Place Hotels also states that it has been careful to select locations for its hotels, which are close to the business, financial, and entertainment centres in each city or destination.
With hotels in Edmonton, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, Winnipeg and Vancouver, this will be the company’s first venture on the East Coast.
