Chamber elects new executive
Plans underway for annual gala
A chartered professional accountant has been elected as the new president of the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce.
Joanne Mcrae, a manager with MNP LLP Truro, will serve as the chamber president for the next year after being elected during the organization’s recent annual general meeting. The local chamber has been serving the region for 128 years.
Mcrae said building stronger partnerships with business stakeholders and all levels of government was a focus of the chamber during the past year that she would like to see continue going forward.
“Over the next year, the chamber itself is just looking at continuing to work on the partnerships that we’ve developed over the last couple of years, whether that’s with both munici- pal governments, provincial governments other chambers in both the province and across Canada, as well as continuing to develop the relationships with our local businesses in our membership,” she said.
“ at’s going to be our primary focus.”
From a personal level, Mcrae said that while growing up she was able to witness the challenges faced by her father, who ran his own business for 10 years, as well as those of the clients she now deals with.
“So, I’m looking forward to being given the opportunity to be able to help local businesses across Colchester County and Truro and be able to meet those challenges and advocate on their behalf,” she said.
Mcrae replaces outgoing president Alex Stevenson, manager of commercial banking at CIBC, who will remain on the board as past-president.
