Hubtown Theatre is bringing a comedy about love, family and marriage to the Marigold Culture Centre stage this week in the form of Maggie’s Getting Married.

Maggie may be getting married, but things aren’t about to go smoothly between the rehearsal and the wedding.

Hubtown Theatre is staging ‘Maggie’s Getting Married,’ a play by Norm Foster, at the Marigold Cultural Centre this week, and there will be lots of laughter from the audience.

“Norm Foster has a way of mixing elements of both drama and comedy,” said Brian Sears, who is directing. “I directed Mending Fences, which is also by Norm Foster, last winter and it has a lot of serious aspects. This is more of a comedic play.

“When I do a lot of comedy I want something more serious, and vice versa.”

The entire play takes place in the kitchen of a modern-day home, just after the family returns from the wedding rehearsal.

The cast includes Maggie

(Christine Finn), her husband-tobe Russell (Joshua Creelman), her parents Cass (Nicola Scales) and

Tom (Rod Deviller), her sister

Wanda (Niki Nash) and her sister’s boyfriend Axel (Andy Buckley).

“Wanda meets Axel and dis- covers something that’s kind of a shock,” said Sears. “There are things in the way of a smooth marriage.”

While the play is a comedy, it reveals insights into complex feelings and the complications that come with family.

‘Maggie’s Getting Married’ runs March 21-24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 and are available at MacQuarries Pharmsave (Esplanade location) and at the Marigold box office.
