Online grocery shopping now available in Truro
Truro and area residents who prefer online shopping can now add groceries to their electronic list.
As of Wednesday, Atlantic Superstore in Truro is one of a number of locations where online grocery shopping is available.
And it didn’t take long for customers to begin using the service.
Truro residents Andrew and Sara Boone were among the first customers to place an online order. By late Thursday morning their full shopping cart was wheeled to their vehicle at a designated area in the parking lot.
“The plan is that we will be more organized,” Andrew said.
Beyond the convenience of online shopping the couple said they also hoped it could reduce their overall grocery bill – by subduing impulse buying that often comes from strolling the aisles.
“I think when I come to the grocery store I would be more apt to grab other things,” Andrew said.
The couple often use online shopping for other purchases and had been ordering some grocery items and dry goods through Amazon. But one thing they couldn’t get was fresh produce.
“It was kind of the missing piece I would say,” he added.
And Sara said she believes the online option will help with meal planning “and being intentional about which items we want.”
“So, this helps with that goal,” she said. “And, then, no more grocery list on the fridge.”
Mark Boudreau, director of Corporate Affairs for Loblaw Atlantic, Superstore’s parent company, said in a news release Wednesday online shopping is being introduced to help make customers’ lives easier and more convenient.
“Our online shopping allows them to order fresh and pantry items from their home, their work or wherever they are, and pick them up at a time that best fits with their schedule, he said.”
The service was launched in December at select Atlantic Superstore locations in Halifax. Now, in addition to Truro, it is available in New Glasgow, Digby and Yarmouth. And, by mid-april the service is to be available at all locations throughout the province.
“This service has been extremely successful in other markets,” Boudreau said. “As we bring it to our Atlantic Superstore customers in each community, we’ve continued to fine-tune it, ensuring our product offering reflects all the local favourites and best-selling brands our customers expect.”
The service enables customers to shop for all of their groceries online, then schedule a convenient time to pick up the order at their local Superstore.
Orders are prepared in as little as two hours and delivered by staff to the customer at a designated parking area, without them having to leave their vehicle.
Boudreau said each order is prepared by a dedicated personal shopper who will select the freshest items possible and make sure everything in the customer’s order is “exactly how they want it,” keeping the customer’s personal preferences in mind.
