Mahar, Howard Leland – 69, Truro, passed away unexpected­ly at his home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Born in Blacks Harbour, NB on February 8, 1949 he was a son of the late Vean and Hazel (Cooke) Mahar. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley (Clyke); daughter,

Terri Mahar of Truro; son, Timmy of Truro; step-son, Thomas (Tracey) Strang of Lower Sackville, NS; step-daughter, Shirley Dawn (Michael) Duck of Halifax, NS; his dog, Brendel; brothers, Bob (Betty) of Penticton, BC, David (Eliza) of Blacks Harbour, NB, Allen (Glenna) of Pennfield, NB and Randy of Burnaby, BC; sisters, Dawn (Cal) Justason, Norma (Gerald) Belliveau and Dorothy (Michael) Barry all of Pennfield, NB, Lucy Tracy of Lake Utopia, NB, Janice (Ralph) Justason of Seeley’s Cove, NB and Beth Mahar of Blacks Harbour, NB; five grandchild­ren; 17 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces. In addition to his parents he was predecease­d by his brother, Roger; sister, Patricia and brother-in-law, Carl Tracy Jr. After graduating from Blacks Harbour High School, Howard went into the Air Force and served as a Peace Keeper in Egypt. Upon leaving the service, he worked for Irving Oil for over 25 years. He enjoyed going on walks with his K9 companion, Brendel, playing old timers Hockey, baking, cooking, hunting, fishing, reading and gardening. Howard really enjoyed the company of others and could often be found meeting up with his buddies at the food court in the mall. He was a Jehovah’s Witness in the Truro Congregati­on and he will be missed by all who knew him. Arrangemen­ts under the care of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS (902-895-5587) where a service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., Mr. David Spence officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers and honoring Howard’s memory, donations to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Charlotte County Cancer Society or the S.P.C.A. would be appreciate­d by the family.
