Cheer squads gear up

Provincials set for RECC this weekend

-

Truro cheerleaders will be out for provincial glory in their own backyard this weekend.

More than 90 teams from clubs across the province will descend on the Rath-eastlink Community Centre for the Cheer Nova Scotia Provincials, Saturday and Sunday.

Doors open at 7: 45 a. m. both days and admission is $18 for a weekend pass or $10 per day.

Final awards are slated for 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The event marks the third occasion a cheerleading competition has been held at RECC this season.

Truro All- Star Cheer and Tumble hosted the Central Nova Cheer Challenge with Valley Cheer Athletics in February while Maritime Meltdown was also at the building in early March. Both events left parking hard to find and extra spots are being offered this weekend at Access Nova Scotia.

Truro All-star Cheer and Tumble will have all four of its teams in action at the event, which brings the four-month competition season to a close.

Truro Twisters, grand champions in their last appearance at Maritime Meltdown, will be competing in the Senior Level 3 Division and are slated to hit the mat at 2:58 p.m.

Truro Reign lines up in Senior 1 at 8:38 a.m. while Truro Chill will battle in Junior 2 at 10:10 a.m.

Truro Heatwave is in the Youth 1 category and is slated to perform at 11:18 a.m.

Both Chill and Heatwave are fresh off fifth- place performances at the Cheer Evolution National Championships in Niagara Falls, Ont., earlier this month.
