Evasive driver

-

A teen was arrested early Friday morning after the driver of a vehicle tried to evade police and damaged two businesses, including Keith’s Gas Bar on Willow Street in Millbrook.

A 15-year-old Millbrook boy was arrested early Friday morning after a restaurant was vandalized and a stolen car was driven into two buildings in Truro and Millbrook.

Colchester District RCMP responded to an alarm call at a Hilden restaurant on Highway 2 around 2:54 a.m. Friday morning, and found a large window had been smashed with a rock, which was located inside.

RCMP had received a complaint of a stolen black truck earlier, and thought it may have been related.

At 3:16 a.m., Truro police saw a black pickup truck drive into the entrance of the Truro Tobacco Shop, located on the Esplanade. When officers approached the truck, the vehicle sped off without its lights on.

The vehicle was later located by police in Millbrook, where it again fled. Due to safety concerns, officers chose not to chase the vehicle. At that time, officers noticed there was damage to the entrance of Keith’s Gas Bar in Millbrook.

Police later found the car and driver on Highway 102 after the vehicle collided with the median. The driver was arrested and taken to hospital to treat his injuries. He

has since been released.

While both businesses are open, wooden boards are covering the damaged doors and windows until repairs can be made.

“We’re working on getting it fixed right now, but we are still waiting to hear back from insurance,” said Keith Julien, owner of Keith’s Gas Bar.

The boy is not in custody, but is set to appear in Truro Provincial Court on May 28, and faces charges of break and enter into a business, taking a vehicle without consent, two counts of mischief, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
