One man in hospital after shooting in Dartmouth
A man was taken to hospital with life- threatening injuries after a shooting at the Woodlawn Plaza in Dartmouth on Monday.
Police were called to 114 Woodlawn Rd. in relation to a report of a shooting that occurred inside a business, said a news release from Halifax Regional Police.
A small, white car appeared to be abandoned with the driver’s side door left open, inside an area of a parking lot that was cordoned off by police tape.
The large plaza includes a strip mall and the big-box stores Staples and Giant Tiger.
“We heard gunshots and somebody ran by exclaiming that they’d been shot,” said an employee at Giant Robot Comics.
The woman, who didn’t want to be identified, said she heard four or five gunshots.
“I was probably the calmest out of everybody,” said the woman.
“People were scared but I was kind of like, ‘Well, lock the door.’” Then they called police. At Great Things in Store thrift shop, an employee, who also didn’t want to be identified, said that shortly after hearing the shots, two men were seen running by the store.
“They didn’t look like they’d been shot,” said the woman.
“They looked like they were the other party.”
Asked if she was scared by the incident, the woman said, “No, it happened at the other end of the mall.”
