Joseph (Joe) Seaman Rector

RECTOR, Joseph Seaman “Joe” – 86, Truro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in River Hebert East, he was a son of the late Seaman and Roberta (Porter) Rector.

Joe served in Canadian Army, Queen’s Own Rifles, did peace duty in Korea and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He was a cook at Colchester Correction­al Centre for 21 years, retiring in 1996, and also worked security at Colchester Legion Stadium for 42 years, retiring in 2013.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Woodworth, Central Onslow; sons, Terry (Glenda), Bible Hill; Leonard, Bible Hill; Steven (Denise), Belmont; loving grandchild­ren, Mandi, Michelle, Sarah, Joseph, Nicole, Mitchell, Allan, Matthew; great grandchild­ren, Cruz and Quinn; sister, Sandra “Sandi” (Colin) Galloway-howell, Oakfield; brother, Dara (Elaine) Rector, Moncton, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife, Marion Edith (Fletcher) Rector; brothers, Gerald, Morris, Charles.

Special thanks are extended to all the staff at The Mira for their excellent care; Joe loved you and we know you loved him, too.

Arrangemen­ts have been en- trusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a Legion Tribute Service will be held 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, followed by visitation from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, also at the funeral home, and funeral service at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, Reverend Donna Lawrence officiatin­g. Reception will follow. Private family interment in Peniel United Church Cemetery, Five Islands. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory to Mcculloch United Church or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
