Hospice Palliative Care Week events

Today

1-4 p.m. – Open house and barbecue at the Hospice Centre, 89 Queen St. Tuesday, May 8

10:30 a.m. – Wills & Estates Made Easy, Truro Library – The Legal Informatio­n Society of Nova Scotia will discuss preparing a will, personal directive and power of attorney. Contact the library to register.

1:30 p.m. – Knitting Bee at 89 Queen Street. Sit, knit, and chat while enjoying tea, co ee, and snacks.

7 p.m. – Historic and Cultural Perspectiv­es on Death, Dying, & Grief –Panel discussion on current and past cultural practices surroundin­g end of life. Event is at the Colchester Historeum and admission is free. Moderated by Hospice Executive Director Craig Johnson, the panel will explore current and past cultural practices surroundin­g end of life. Panelists include: Dr. Lynn Jones, an African Nova Scotian leader and activist; Cynthia (Cyndi) Martin, a Mi’kmaw artist; Ashley Sutherland, a researcher and archivist; and Samantha Molen, a palliative social worker with Colchester East Hants Hospice.

Thursday, May 10

1:30 p.m. – Caregiver Stress Management Workshop, Truro Library – This Caregivers Nova Scotia Presentati­on by Cindie Smith will look at causes, symptoms, and recognitio­n of caregiver stress. It will also provide stress management tools. Contact Truro Library to register.

7 p.m. – Hospice Variety Show at First United Church. Admission by donation

Friday, May 11 7 p.m. – Noveltea Film Night – The lm is Philadelph­ia. Tickets are available by donation. Saturday, May 12

10 a.m.-noon – Hospice Hug Painting at the Truro Public Library, for children of all ages.

2-4 p.m. – Death Cafe, Truro Library – Conversati­on about death and dying. Cake and light refreshmen­ts will be available. Contact the library to register.
