Sisterhood of Sound coming to Truro
They’re not all sisters, but they form a sisterhood of sound.
Liv and Anita Cazzola, who actually are sisters, will be joined by Annie Sumi for a show at Visual Voice Gallery, as part of their Sisterhood of Sound tour.
This will be the first Truro performance for the Ontario-based musicians.
“Annie doesn’t have a sister, but we feel connected, and when we sing together it sound like we’re all sisters,” said Liv.
“Our music is definitely rooted in folk tradition, and inspired by the natural world.”
Liv and Anita often perform as part of a six-member group called The Lifers, whose album Honey Suite is being released this month. Sisterhood of Sound performers, from left, Liv Cazzola, Anita Cazzola and Annie Sumi will be in Truro for a show on May 21 at Visual Voice Art Gallery.
“The creation of the album has almost proven to be a healing process in our relationship for Anita and I,” said Liv. “We’ve been reminded of how important it is to be there for each other, in every way. Even though there have been difficult times, this project has been something to raise each other up.”
Since January, Liv has been working full time in music, performing and teaching. Anita is studying sculpture and installation when she’s not performing.
“Music has always been part of our lives,” said Liv. “There was music in our house, and our parents played in a cover band at local events. It helped develop our ear for harmony.”
The Sisterhood of Sound tour will reach several locations across Canada, before heading to Europe in June.
The performance at Visual Voice Gallery takes place Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is $15 per person at the door.
