Truro car club hosting second annual show-and-shine at Debert Airport
The Mercury Club is gearing up to host its second annual Colchester County Show & Shine at the Debert Airport, a venue they are very well acquainted with.
The Mercury Club is gearing up to host its second annual Colchester County Show & Shine at the Debert Airport June 2 and 3.
It’s a location that once carried a long history of annual car shows before they were relocated the last few years.
“As soon as we announced we were having it there, people were like, ‘ Really? I’ve been waiting for it to come back,’” said Wendy Mccallum, marketing and promotions rep for the Colchester County Show & Shine.
“Before our last show, there was a year- to two- year gap where there was no car show in Truro and the surrounding area. What our group wanted to do was something that would appease everybody, and when that location was used, that’s when car shows were actually car shows.”
Last year, The Mercury Club held its first show-and-shine in Masstown, and while the location worked well, holding this year’s show at the airport was something they couldn’t pass up.
“It’s a bit of a revival, bringing a car show back to the air field,” said Mccallum.
“The show is in a different location, but it’s in the same old location, if you get what I mean.”
Also new to this year’s show is the addition of a burnout competition, both Saturday and Sunday, where drivers will put their cars against each other in an attempt to wow judges and the audience with big, smoky burnouts.
“The burnout competition isn’t just for four- wheeled vehicles either, we are opening it to motorcycles, too,” said McCallum.
“We are an all-inclusive showand- shine, so there is no limit on age of cars, models, or any
of that stuff. We will be giving out trophies at the show for different categories of vehicle, such as Best Modified, People’s Choice, Best Rat Rod and Best Motorcycle, among others.”
The Truro Flying club will hold an open house at the airport during the show- andshine, and will provide halfhour scenic flights for $ 80 each.
As with the show- and- shine last year, the club will be taking donations and giving a portion of the show’s proceeds to a local non- profit organization. This year’s donations will go to Colchester Ground Search and Rescue.
“We raised a little over $1,300 for the Cobequid Special Olympics last year, which is a great outfit,” said Mccallum.
“It’s great to have these facilities and programs like the Cobequid Special Olympics or the Colchester Search and Rescue, but until they actually have to use them, I think a lot of people take them for granted.”
The show-and-shine will also feature food trucks, vendors and music provided by Copperclover Entertainment.
A dyno machine will be on site Sunday, which allows drivers to check how much horsepower their cars generate.
Entrance for vehicles to the show is $10 per car for both days, and $5 per day for spectators with family rates and weekend passes available.
