Atlantic Chamber of Commerce AGM next week in Truro

The Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce will host the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce’s 122nd Annual General Meeting and Profession­al Developmen­t Day next week.

The event will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Holiday Inn on Prince Street in Truro.

The keynote speaker will be Francis Mcguire, president of the Atlantic Canada Opportunit­ies Agency (ACOA), who will speak on the importance of innovation and developing a skilled work- force in Atlantic Canada. Jennifer Hagen, senior director, chamber developmen­t and services, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, will also speak.

“We are so excited to have been selected as the host location for this year’s Atlantic Chamber of Commerce Profession­al Developmen­t Day and Annual General Meeting,” says Sherry Martell, executive director, Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to welcoming chamber executives and business leaders from across Atlantic Canada showcasing this region’s vibrant, thriving business community, while strengthen­ing our connection­s to the regional and national network.”

The ACC will also swear in its next chairman and announce its 2018-2019 board of directors who represent chambers and business throughout Atlantic Canada.

“ACC’S AGM and PD Day are important annual events that provide an opportunit­y to review our achievemen­ts, results and to set policy and direction for the future of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce,” says Sheri Somerville, CEO, Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. “We are excited to have the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce host our AGM this year. It’s a beautiful part of this region and a fantastic setting to provide chamber executives from across Atlantic Canada time to share knowledge and expertise that are important to the Atlantic business community and their role within that community.”

Members are invited to attend the meeting where they will get the chance to review the annual report and accounts for the period ending Dec. 31, 2017.

Canadian author and corporate trainer, Eddie Lemoine, will lead a chamber PD session, Journey to Engagement, with sessions including current trends, working with five generation­s, and diversity in the workplace. Joining him will be Mohamed-ali Kessentini, director of strategic partnershi­ps, First Data, and Yanik Ottenbreit, customer relations specialist, Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance Plan.
