Come together

A committee from graduates of the Class of 1978 is laying the groundwork for a 40th anniversary celebration and reunion this summer.

There will be a lot of reminiscing going on when the Cobequid Educational Centre Class of 1978 gathers for the 40th anniversary reunion this summer.

Former classmates will be coming from as far as New Zealand for the gathering, which will be held at the Holiday Inn, July 28.

“It’s all about the little details and making everyone feel welcome and included,” said committee chairperson Cathy Hinton.

“Some of our classmates haven’t been back to Truro for 30-plus years. They will see such a difference in the town.”

The evening will include music from the ’70s, dancing, prizes, old photos, a new class photo, and a video memorial for the 33 members of the class who have passed away.

“Of all the classes at CEC, ours has lost the most classmates, some we have known since elementary school,” said committee member Butch Borden. “It is so sad. To be able to celebrate a milestone like our 40th Reunion is important because we never know what tomorrow will bring.”

It’s hoped many of those who taught members of the class will also attend.

The reunion begins at 7 p.m. for the class of 1978, with the doors opening to those from other years at 9 p.m.

“All of us are so excited and still shaking our heads, wondering where these 40 years have gone.” said committee member Kim Anthony Forster.
