Fast fillies invade Truro tonight

There will be a celebratio­n of Atlantic Canada’s stars tonight as 31 three-year-old pacing fillies roll into Truro to compete in four divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes, vying for purses totaling $26,560.

Atlantic Standard Bred Breeders is recognized as a key promoter and supporter of Maritime harness racing, encouragin­g the breeding, raising and racing of horses in the Atlantic region for the last half century.

Maritime horses have a reputation for both the high speed and durability necessary to take on North America’s best.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes Series for two- and three-year-old pacing/trotting colts and fillies encompasse­s six division held at five tracks in P.E.I. and Nova Scotia.

On tap

Twelve dashes are scheduled for tonight, with a post-time of 6:30 p.m. Qualifying rounds are set for 5:15 pm.

Still chasing the Ace

Five cards remain for a jackpot of $24,423.50.

Last week’s winner, Dave Flemming, drew the four of spades and picked up $1,316 in prize winnings.

Tickets sell for $5 each or five for $20 and are available on Sundays at the Truro Horsemen’s Club between 1 and 3 p.m., followed by the draw.

Tickets are also available at Truro Raceway on Friday evenings during the regular race card.
