TRURO’S PRIDE WILL BE SHOWING THIS JULY
Truro Pride Dragstravanganza coming to the stage this summer
Some of the most glamorous drag queens in Nova Scotia will take centre stage in Truro this summer.
Truro Pride Dragstravaganza will take place at the Marigold Cultural Centre on July 14.
“Come with an open mind, it’s going to be a big party,” said Brandt Eisner, show organizer and performer. “This is Truro’s first real drag show.”
Eisner has been performing for 12 years.
“I had a group of friends who started performing, and it’s one of those things that when your peer group is doing it, you start,” he said. “For me, it’s like theatre. You get to be different characters and you can get lost in it.
“In the real world, I’m a little shy and anxious. I’m a totally different person on stage; much less inhibited.”
He will be on stage as Lickity Splitt, who is known for her many personalities and performance styles, as well as wearable art creations.
“This is a great outlet, because I studied wearable art and costuming at NSCAD,” said Eisner. “I often make things to wear. I’m always hitting second-hand stores, looking for vintage pieces and things I can rework. I often make headpieces and masks.
“With what I do, comfort has very little to do with it. Wearing layers and padding can be restrictive.”
He sometimes performs as Persnickety Splitt, who is more edgy than Lickity.
“For a lot of people, this show may be their first time seeing drag, so it will be more trad-
itional,” he said. “There will be nine performers, and they’re all very different.”
Other performers at Truro Pride Dragstravaganza include Diane Isis, Manny Dingo, Elle Noir, Jennifer Dafuque, Donatella Daddy, Bridget von Snapps, Marsha Mellow and Rocadella Deluca.
Tickets for the show, which will
begin at 8 p.m. on July 14, are $20 and are available now online at https://secure.ticketpro.ca/?lan g=en&server=ww3&aff=mcc#ac HAT_MCC14GS18 or at Macquarries – Esplanade location, the Rath-eastlink Community Centre and the Marigold Cultural Centre box office.
