A look behind the scenes on ‘NUMB’
Dylan Jenkinson is ready to share some of the experiences that go into the creation of a thriller.
Jenkinson, producer of NUMB, and Oscar-winning set designer Shane Vieau will be taking part in a question-and-answer session following a showing of the film at the Tatamagouche Centre.
“A lot of people get enjoyment out of a of peek behind the scenes of what it takes to make a movie,” Jenkinson said. “It was a difficult film to make in some ways. It was shot in the middle of winter in different locations, including on a frozen lake and in remote mountainous areas in the interior of B.C.
“After people watch, it’s fun to give them insight into things like how we dealt with the weather and how we made things look the way they did. We’ll surprise people with some things.”
He calls the film a “thriller that has substance,” and says he’s happy with the way it’s been received.
NUMB was completed in 2015 and screened at several inter- national film festivals. It is a story of a couple in financial distress who find GPS coordinates that promise to lead to stolen gold. To retrieve the coins they partner with a couple of mysterious hitchhikers and enter the wilderness.
Although this will be Jenkinson’s first visit to Tatamagouche in about 15 years; he lived in the community and attended elementary school there, for a few months during the 1980s. His grandparents were living there at that time, and his parents, Paul and Lydia, are now living in the village.
After he told his parents he was coming for a visit, they organized the film event to raise funds for the Guatemala-tatamagouche Schools group, which allows students and chaperones from each country to visit one another and help with programs.
Vieau, Academy Award Oscar Winner for best production design for his work on The Shape of Water, will take part in the Q&A session, answering questions about set design for both film and television.
The film event will take place on Thursday, June 21 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and seating is limited. Admission is by donation.
