New Glasgow student named for A’court Scholarshi­p

Young creative minds from across Nova Scotia gathered recently to showcase their talents at the Minister’s Awards for Creative Excellence in the Arts.

“Music has always been a passion of mine since I was very young,” said Hayley Macgregor, recipient of the Charlie A’court Scholarshi­p for Excellence in Music. “I am grateful to receive one of the minister’s awards and am very excited to have the opportunit­y to perform at the celebratio­n ceremony.”

Macgregor is a student from North Nova Education Centre in New Glasgow. The scholarshi­p is valued at $500 and includes a mentorship opportunit­y with the musician.

The event, at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, featured Grade 12 students planning to pursue post-secondary studies in the creative arts. The awards included four scholarshi­ps for excellence in visual arts, performing arts, digital multimedia and music.

The province partnered with the gallery and A’court to present the awards.

Other recipients are:

– Elise Pecotic, Citadel High School, Halifax, $1,000 - Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Award for Excellence in Visual Arts

– Breton Hickey, Glace Bay High School, $1,000 - Award for Excellence in Performing Arts

– Seanna Bailey, Hants East Rural High School, Milford Station, Hants Co., $1,000 - Award for Excellence in Digital Multimedia

Eight applicants were also chosen to receive $100 prizes.
