Bearcats fall short against Halifax

-

The Truro Bearcats fought back after falling behind the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians but came up just short in a Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League game Friday at the TAAC Grounds.

The visiting Canadians took a 7-5 decision, scoring a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings for the difference, after the Bearcats twice battled to tie the game.

Truro opened scoring in the first before giving up four through the second to fourth innings against Halifax but bounced back with a pair in the fourth and one in the fifth to knot it at four. A run apiece in the seventh kept things even, before the Canadians tallied in the late going for the win.

With the loss, Truro remains winless in nine starts this season.

Pitcher Jordan Pelham went the distance to take the win while Tyler Smith took the loss for Truro. The Canadians out hit the Bearcats 12-7. The Bearcats committed five errors to the Canadians’ one.

Jason Smith had a pair of doubles at the plate for Truro and drove in two runs. Jeff Chisholm had a double and a single with an RBI and also scored a run. Matt Mingo had a double and an RBI.

For Halifax, Jake Pelham had a homer, a double and a single and drove in two. Steve Murphy had three singles and scored twice.

Wednesday, the Bearcats travel to Kentville to take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. This weekend, Truro hosts Sydney Sooners for three. Friday night at 7 p.m. the teams meet at the TAAC Grounds, while Saturday brings a doubleheader with games at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
