STONE, John Gordon — 73, Central Onslow, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, following a six year battle with cancer.

Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, he was a son of the late Angeline “Elsie” FalconerCa­rter and came east with his mother and step-father, William Coulter.

He had fond memories of life at Belmont Railway Station and enjoyed recounting stories of hobos, picking blueberrie­s, etc. Also, enjoyable summers were spent boating and mountain biking at Bayhead beach with family.

John was a journeyman carpenter and took his trade at Point Edward, Cape Breton, and enjoyed mentoring many young apprentice­s. He worked for Nova Scotia Housing Commission in the early 70s and incorporat­ed his rm, Span Constructi­on Limited in 1975. Besides constructi­on, his many talents included stained glass work and playing guitar with his sons.

John is survived by his wife, soulmate and partner in business, Madeline (Tattrie); they would have been married 52 years in July. He is also survived by their sons, David, Green eld, and Jeffery (Jennifer Richardson), Sydney; brother, Aubrey Coulter (Alex), Toronto; sister, Rose Morewood, Halifax; brothers-in-law, Ron (Gladys) Tattrie, John Tattrie, Bayhead. The lights of his life and the reason he struggled to live longer are his precious grandchild­ren, Matthew, Nicholas and Lauren Levangie; nieces, Carrie, Krista and Karen; nephews, Scott and Steven. Along with his mother and step-father, he was predecease­d by a brother in infancy and nephew, Andrew Morewood. The family would like to thank the sta of the Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. Henderson, Angela and the VON nurses (Chastity and others). Private interment will be held at Bayhead (Union Church) Cemetery. If so desired, donations in John’s memory to Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC) or charity of choice would be appreciate­d. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
