Mellish was an asset to village commission

-

To the editor:

As a resident of Bible Hill, on Saturday, June 23 I read the front-page article of Dwane Mellish’s resignation from the Bible Hill Village commission with great interest and concern.

In my many years of experience, a person with Dwane’s experience, and involvement, in the community would be a great asset to any commission, or council and their dedication and input would be respected. Dwane certainly understands what conflict is and knew when to declare a conflict. It is apparent to me that the chair of the village commission and some commissioners don’t understand it.

When I visited the Bible Hill Fire Hall at 7:30 in the morning following the Dal AC fire, Dwane was among a number of Bible Hill firefighters still there, cleaning up the firefighting equipment, having performing their duties since 9:15 p.m. the night before. That is the type of dedication that firefighters have and shows their commitment to their community.

In my opinion, Dwane Mellish deserved more respect from the Bible Hill Village Commission.

On top of that, the Village of Bible Hill posted a notice on their Pictou Road billboard Friday advertising for a new village commissioner, and in Monday morning’s Truro Daily News, there was a full advertisement for the position. Dwane had just submitted his resignation on Wednesday. You can’t tell me that the village commission has that much on their plate that they can’t give this a little time.

This shows total disrespect for a community resident and volunteer. Bob Taylor
