Mcisaac named to national junior summer roster

Jared Mcisaac has been named to the summer roster for Canada’s national junior hockey team.

The Truro native was one of 40 players invited to wear the red and white at the Sport Chek World Junior Showcase in Kamloops, B.C., July 28 to Aug. 4.

“The Sport Chek World Junior Showcase gives us an excellent opportunit­y to begin the evaluation process and for the staff to familiariz­e themselves with the players before the new season kicks off,” said Brad Mcewen, head scout for Hockey Canada. “We also get to see the players in competitio­n against the teams who will be returning to Vancouver and Victoria this December. It’s a unique opportunit­y, and we’re looking forward to making the most of it as we kick off our journey to the 2019 World Juniors later this month.”

Mcisaac, an 18-year-old defenceman for the Halifax Mooseheads, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round, 36th overall, in the NHL Entry Draft on June 23 in Dallas.

The eight-day junior showcase features Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States and will feature 11 games. Canada will dress Truro native Jared Mcisaac has been named to the 40-man summer roster for the national junior team.

Mcisaac will be vying for a roster spot on Canada’s world junior championsh­ip team that will host the 2019 tournament, beginning Dec. 26, 2018 in Vancouver and Victoria.

Mcisaac has represente­d Canada in previous internatio­nal events. He won gold at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in the Czech Republic, and also played at two world under-18 championsh­ips.
