Bearcats earn victory over Canadians

The Truro Bearcats defeated the Halifax Pelham Canadians 13-7 on Tuesday in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League.

The win loss came after a pair of weekend losses. On Sunday, the Bearcats were blanked 11-0 by the Kentville Wildcats, following a 4-3 10-inning setback at the hands of the undefeated Dartmouth Moosehead Dry.

On Tuesday, Jeff Chisholm had three hits and drove in three runs for the Bearcats, while Justin Morton and Adam Lombard each added two RBI.

John Chapman was the winning pitcher and Brett Mcginnis suffered the loss.

The Bearcats (6-19) next action is Aug. 9 when they visit the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry.

Kentville 11, Truro 0

The visiting Wildcats crushed Truro pitching for 17 hits in the game that was called after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Kentville led 1-0 after two innings and increased its lead to 6-0 with three in the third, followed by two in the fourth.

Codey Shrider led the Wildcats at the plate with three singles and two RBI, while Dryden Schofield homered and singled and also drove in two runs. Shawn Mullins hit two singles for the Bearcats, while Darson Murphy and John Chapman had other Truro hits.

Brad Fuller was the winning pitcher and Brandon Malally suffered the loss.

Dartmouth 4, Truro 3

The Bearcats put forth a great effort in their attempt to spoil the Moosehead Dry’s perfect season.

With the game tied 2-2 after nine innings, Dartmouth scored a pair in the top of the 10th.

Truro got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Moosehead Dry improved their record to 18-0.

Dartmouth went to 19-0 on Monday after beating Kentville 12-2 in eight innings.
