Sizzling action on tap at Truro Raceway

Eight dashes of live harness racing action are set for Friday evening.

The $1,675 feature class will have eight on the gate as they go to post in Race 7.

Post-time is 6: 30 p.m. Qualifying rounds are on tap for 5:15 p.m.

Steve Morton’s newsest acquisitio­n is causing quite a stir at the raceway. Campaignin­g out of Flamboro, Hanover and Grand River, the six- year- old son of Jeremes Jet, Wildcat Jet, has won his rst three starts at the local oval.

In his rst start in Truro on July 20, he won, covering the ground in 201 at in line to Dale Spence. On July 22, he paced another winning trip in 201 with Walter Cheverie between the wheels, and July 27 Wildcat Jet, with Todd Trites at the controls, equalled his life’s best of 157.4, previously taken over a 5/8ths mile track.

July award winners Popular hometown teamster Paul Langille topped the driver leaderboar­d for July, accumulati­ng 79 points with six wins and hitting the money 23 times out of 31 starts to clinch Cool Driver for the month.

New Brunswick native Dale Spence accrued 75 points to nish second.

Hot Horse accolades were earned by Miss Sangria, picking up 19 points with three victories and one second-place nish for owners Ryder Matthews Rennison and Andrea Rennison. Second place for Hot Horse ended in a ve-way tie – Wildcat Jet (Stephen Morton), Glenview Paisley (Ronald Harris), Always Reese, ( Andrea Rennison and Ryder Matthews Rennison), Stature Seelster (CC Stables) and Only One Star (Anthony Stymest, Ken Hardie and Dr. Don Ling) each had 15 points.

Truro’s top trainer for 2017, George Rennison, continues to forge the way in 2018, snagging top trainer recognitio­n for the third consecutiv­e month this year, gathering 57 points by sending out 23 starters in July’s seven race cards.

Live racing

With Charlottet­own’s Country Days and Old Home Week celebratio­ns, along with Truro’s Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition on the calendar, there are a few changes to Truro Raceway’s live race schedule.

August live race dates for Truro Raceway follow:

Aug. 3 – 6:30 p.m.

Aug. 21 – 7 p.m.

Aug. 31 – 6:30 p.m.

Afternoon racing

Monday afternoon, Saint John’s Exhibition Park Raceway will be hosting two features, the Barrieau Mcissaac nal for three-year-old colts and the Ken Norwood Memorial Pace. Post-time is 1 p.m.

Matinee racing

Port Elgin Exhibition in Port Elgin, N.B., will be featuring a matinee card of harness racing on Sunday, Aug. 19. Post-time 1 p.m. at the exhibition grounds.
