Senior tennis a big hit in Truro
“An all-life sport” is the way o ce manager Joel Richards describes tennis, and the thriving senior membership communities agree.
The club has more than 75 members aged 50+, including up to age 80, and is a great source of exercise, friendship and fresh air.
is senior group includes a dedicated group of 30 that play ve days a week, every single morning. When asked what keeps him coming back every day, long-time member Jim Power said that “as a senior, tennis is the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done.”
Another long-time organizer and promoter is Norma Stewart, a well-known face at the club. She loves tennis because in her words, “it’s a fun social occasion, combining great physical exercise and spending time with friends.”
is year, the club programming has placed emphasis on tennis for those at an older age, and this includes a free six-week session speci cally tailored to those over 50. The senior membership at the Truro Tennis Club is having a great time on the courts this season, staying in shape while enjoying the game they love.
is program will be twice a week, beginning in mid-august, and is designed to encourage those who have not played a lot
of tennis, or those trying to become more active. It will include a social, stretching, and an hour of tennis.
