Aramis and Emma Crossan make a solid team, as the pair took home a few red ribbons from the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition.

Emma is a 14-year-old member of the Clifton 4-H Club, and Aramis is a fivemonth-old rabbit, a member of the tan breed.

“I really like tans because they’re very active and fun to watch,” said Emma. “I’ve had rabbit since I was six years old and they’re great pets.”

Emma, an only child, was encouraged to get involved with 4-H to meet more people. She joined when she was six, and shows in poultry, goat, waterfowl and rabbit classes. She also does veterinary science projects.

“They all have their own challenges, but I think showing rabbits is the easiest be- cause I’ve been doing it so long,” she said.

“I’ve learned about animals and about business, and being in 4-H has helped me build confidence. It’s been a wonderful experience.”

Tans are small, lively, friendly rabbits with an athletic build. They often do well at things like agility, but are not usually cuddly pets.

There are four varieties: black, chocolate, blue and lilac. All have lighter colouring on their underside.
