CEC teams chasing tournament crowns

Cobequid Educationa­l Centre varsity soccer teams will be seeking tournament titles this weekend.

e CEC girls team is in Dieppe, N.B. for tournament action in Dieppe, while the boys head to Windsor for an event at King’s-edgehill.

e girls enter the tournament after a 2-0 victory over the Hants East Tigers on Tuesday in Northumber­land region play.

CEC opened the season by win- ning the DAL-AC high school tournament with a 3-0-1 record. In league action, the Cougars also defeated Northumber­land 1-0 and lost 2-0 to Dr. JH Gillis Royals. eir next league action is Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they host the North Nova Gryphons for a 4:30 p.m. start.

e CEC boys team is undefeated in Northumber­land region play with a 3-0 record. e Cougars defeated Hants East on Tuesday 3-1 on goals by Gabriel Tremblay and Drew Mumford.

CEC opens against last year’s provincial bronze-medallists, Sir John A Macdonald, before a game against King’s-edgehill, who nished fourth in 2017. On the other side of the bracket, three-time champion Halifax West, Parkview and Horton will compete.

Next Northumber­land region action for the CEC boys is Sept. 25 when they travel to New Glasgow to face North Nova to nish the rst half of the home-and-home double round-robin schedule.
