James Faulkner has taken over the position of director of communications for the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Faulkner, of Bible Hill, enters the role with an extensive background in communications and journalism.

The 36- year- old graduated from the Atlantic Media Institute in 2006 and has worked as a reporter and news anchor at Big Dog 100.9 and Cat Country 99.5 since 2008.

In addition to being the playby-play voice of the Bearcats since the 2010-11 season, broadcasting games for Hockeytv, Faulkner has also anchored coverage of numerous tournaments, including multiple Fred Page Cups, the inaugural MHL Showcase, and the recent World Junior A Challenge in Truro.

“I’m excited to take on a new challenge and thank my predecessors for the strong foundation they’ve built,” Faulkner said. “As a fan, and as someone who has worked with various members of the executive for a number of years, I look forward to helping this league continue its positive momentum as its 52nd season is now underway.”

Faulkner replaces Kevin Northrup.

“Due to an exciting new career opportunity, it became apparent I

could not give the role the proper time and attention it needs,” said Northrup.

“James Faulkner will be an in-

credible new addition to the MHL executive, and I wish he and the league nothing but the best moving forward.”
