There’s a magic to Halloween for Beth Terry, and she loves to share that with others through the Witches Ball.

“It can be very liberating to dress up and go out in costume,” she said. “The ball gives people a chance to have fun and connect with their inner child.

“It’s amazing to see the costumes people come up with. We had one woman come as a white witch, with long flowing hair and a white dress. One came as a garden witch, in a green dress, and looked like something from Lord of the Rings. They were so beautiful. You could see people’s personalities in the outfit they’d chosen.”

Creativity in encouraged, though not everyone will be dressed as a witch.

This is the third year for the event, and extra prize categories have been added, with witches having their own division.

The ball has been growing, and will be held at the Truro Royal Canadian Legion branch on Brunswick Street this year.

“There will be lots of space for tables, and dancing, and we’ll be able to set up a table of finger foods,” said Terry.

Music will be provided by DJ Harv, and there will be a Thriller dance-off. Photographer Stephanie Macarthur will set up a spooky photo booth, giving the event the feel of a Halloween prom.

Part of the proceeds from the ball will go toward the Truro Elementary School breakfast program.

“There should never be a child at school with a hungry belly, and this is a wonderful community that jumps at the opportunity to Sue Ash, left, and Beth Terry enjoy planning their outfits for the Witches Ball. This year’s event is being held at the Truro Legion.

help,” said Terry.

“All four of my children went to school there, and it’s nice to be able to give back where my children had positive experiences.”

Terry said she’s always looking for places that need help, but don’t receive a lot of attention. The Witches Ball is for anyone age 19 or older. It will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 7:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Tickets are $15, and are available at Macquarries, Esplanade location, and on www.eventbrite.ca or by calling 902-890-2509.
