Stakes series

Truro Raceway is proud to host a division of the popular Nova Scotia Stake Series for three- year- old pacing colts on Sunday.

Developed by the Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry As- sociation, the NS series fosters and promotes the breeding, owning and campaigning of standardbreds in our province.

In the 2015 conditions, a change was implemented by HRNS, allowing yearlings foaled in provinces other than Nova Scotia but owned 100 per cent by Nova Scotia owners to be eligible to be nominated to the stake.

The draw for the Oct. 21 race program is slated for today (Thursday).

When you’re hot, you’re hot

Truro’s leading teamster, Darren Crowe, and athletic and talented 14- year- old pacer Montreal Phil are certainly a “hot” duo, picking up their sixth consecutive victory as a team last Sunday afternoon at the local oval.

Owned by Dawn Ellis Abbott and Jeff Ellis, the seasoned contender paced a trip in 158.3 laying down an edge- of- your- seat finish in last week’s fifth dash.
