Local minor hockey associations receive support from Jed Ritcey Legacy Fund

-

Colchester County minor hockey associations will benefit this season from the Jed Ritcey Legacy Fund.

This week, the group’s board of directors announced that $19,700 will be distributed to grassroots program development and equipment support to four associations in county. Those associations are Truro, South Colchester, Tatamagouche and Colchester female.

Applications for funding were sent out to local minor hockey associations with specific criteria in late August. There were four applications received by the board at the deadline.

“Today, my father would be proud of this announcement,” Dave Ritcey, legacy fund board member, said in a press release issued on Monday, following the announcement.

The fund was developed in memory of Colchester Sports Hall of Famer and community leader Jed Ritcey, a Truro resident who always believed in the importance of giving back to his community. Ritcey also made valuable contributions to the hockey community, including Hockey Canada, Hockey Nova Scotia, the Maritime Junior Hockey League and Truro minor hockey.

The board of directors also announced on Monday that about $40,000 was raised for the fund through last December’s World Junior A Challenge.

The Jed Ritcey Legacy Fund will be an ongoing operating fund for future years with the support of dedicated volunteer board members and members of the community.
