Colchester County students invited to Masters event

-

Colchester County schools are invited to introduce their students to live, world-class curling action during the upcoming Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Masters in Truro.

The local host committee is offering free tickets to schools to bring their students to morning games on Wednesday, Oct. 24 and Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC). Games will be held at 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on both days.

“This is an opportunity to see world champions, Olympic champions and young up-andcoming stars,” host committee co-chairman Craig Burgess said, in a news release.

The international event, which runs from Oct. 23 to 28, features 15 of the top men’s teams and 15 of the top women’s teams in the world. The competition also includes the world junior champ Kaitlyn Jones, whose team features Truro area curlers and cousins Karlee Burgess and Lindsey Burgess.

“Not often can you see a live event with this type of quality athlete in your home town,” Craig Burgess said.

“We’re hoping that by attracting youth to the event, we will generate their interest in the sport,” he says. “And hopefully when they go home, they will get their parents and other family members out to watch a game and get them hooked as well.”

This is the second time the Grand Slam of Curling Masters will be held in Truro, following its first visit to the RECC in 2015.

The game schedule is available online at trurodaily.com .

Tickets are available at the RECC or any Ticketpro outlet.
