e wolf is simply after the goodies in Red Riding Hood’s basket in a version of the tale created by Maritime Marionettes.

“We’re remounting a show we did 30 years ago, with a new take on it,” said Heather Bishop Taylor. “ e Grimm version has some unsavoury elements we didn’t feel were necessary to tell the story. When things are acted out with puppets they can have quite a strong e ect on viewers and we wanted a story that was suitable for all ages.”

Heather and her husband, Darryl Taylor, have been making puppets, and presenting shows, for years. ey brought out some of the characters from a previous version of Red Riding Hood, and made some new ones to join them.

ere’s now a cat for Grandma, as well as a porcupine, owl, rabbit and hound dog. e show includes music instead of dialogue.

“It’s evolved into a wonderfully surprising and sweet story,” said Heather. “ e wolf is mischievous and is just after food. He’s funny and cute, and the kids love him and the other forest animals.

“He is hungry, and he’s seen chewing on things that aren’t food. He tricks Red Riding Hood by turning a sign around, but in the end, he goes on being a wolf and Grandma and Red have a lovely visit. ere’s a happy ending for all.”

e new Red Riding Hood show has been staged in Wolfville, at the Deep Roots Festival, and at the Halifax Seaport Market, and has proven popular with adults as with children.

e Truro shows are being staged at St. Andrew’s Church, King Street on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m., and Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. e show is about 40 minutes long, and is followed by photo time with the puppets. Admission is $10 at the door.
