Guthro back to host Songwriter’s Circle at decoste
Bruce Guthro, who has been hosting Songwriter’s Circles for more than 12 years, is returning to the decoste Performing Arts Centre stage.
“There’s something about hearing the songs of these talented artists played acoustically in an intimate setting that creates an experience like no other,” says centre marketing manager Jennifer MacLennan. “Hearing them play at the decoste is also special because the quality of the sound system here makes every seat a good seat.”
This time around, Guthro will be joined by friends Heather Rankin, Terry Kelly and Kim Dunn on Oct. 26. Having different musicians at each venue means every show is unique. Guthro has had numerous successes throughout his career including songs like Falling, Walk this Road, and Two-story House (with Amy Sky). His musical genres include folk, pop and country, which have helped him garner multiple ECMAS throughout his career.
After more than 20 years of performing with her siblings as part of the Rankin Family, Heather Rankin has recently been back in the studios building her own solo career with the launch of her first album, A Fine Line. She and Guthro have teamed up in the past with various projects, including the song The Water is Wide as part of Celtic Electric.
Adding inspiration to this Songwriter’s Circle is Terry Kelly, an exceptional talent who has not let the challenges of being blind hold him back. He uses his songwriting abilities to make society reflect on what is happening in the world, and to create an awareness. These have included songs like Power of a Dream and Pittance of Time.
Kim Dunn, who has worked with all three artists on past compilations, lending his piano playing capabilities to their efforts, has branched out on his own over the past couple of years with the release of Take this Hammer and Inspiration.
