CEC to host JV girls provincial­s

e Cobequid Cougars will host the eight-team Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation junior varsity girls volleyball championsh­ip Friday and Saturday.

All matches will be played at CEC gymnasium. First-round of matches begin at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon with opening ceremonies to follow. Other matches that evening are scheduled for 5:30, 7 and 8:30. e round-robin nishes on Saturday morning. Consolatio­n playo s are scheduled for noon and semi-finals are slated to go at 1:30 p.m. e nal and the bronze medal match will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Representi­ng the Western Region are the Parkview Panthers and the Digby Mariners. e Highland Region will have teams from Riverview High School and Inverness in the tournament. e teams that have quali ed from the Capital Region are the Citadel Phoenix and the Lockview Dragons, while the Northumber­land Nighthawks and Cougars will represent this region of the province.

e Cougars are the top-seeded team going into the championsh­ip. ey have competed in seven strong tournament­s throughout the volleyball season and have had excellent results competing with the top Division 1 and Division 2 teams in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. ey are defending provincial JV champions.

e Cougars play their rst match at 3 p.m. on Friday against Lockview before a match against Digby at 7 p.m. On Saturday, they complete their round-robin schedule with a 9 a.m. match against Riverview.

Admission to the tournament is $3 for adults and $2 for high school students, with junior high and younger students admitted free of charge.
