KENT David Mark “Dave”

50, Truro, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. Born in Truro and raised in Pleasant Valley, Dave was the son of the late Victor Raymond and Linda R. (Glazebrook) Kent. Dave worked for a taxi company and different labor jobs throughout his life but the most important job he had that he was passionate about was his advocacy work with People First Nova Scotia and the Truro chapter. He is survived by his step daughter, Jolene Marie Mackenzie, Truro; brothers and sisters, Steven (Marcie) Kent, Greenfield; Jimmy Kent, Greenfield; Darlene (Danny) Boyd, Truro; Patty (Ivan) Colbourne, Antigonish; Wayne Roode, Truro; Howard Roode, Truro; biological mother, Sharon Ann Holt Roode, Great Village; nephews and nieces, Jonathon, Katie and Chris Boyd, Truro; Michael Kent, Alberta; Ashley Rose Kent, Shubenacad­ie; Heather Lynn Kent, Antigonish; Amanda Dean, Antigonish; Joshua Roode, Truro; long-time friend and fellow advocate, Cindy Carruthers. Dave was an active member of CMHA Colchester East Hants Branch. He enjoyed many of their activities such as swimming, social events and helping with the office. Dave was a charter member of People First of Truro and served as their president for six years. He joined the provincial People First board in 2008 and served as Treasurer, Vice President, President and was Past President at the time of his passing. He represente­d Nova Scotia at National meetings in Manitoba and committee meetings and conference­s in many other provinces. Dave was passionate about advocating for persons labelled with an intellectu­al disability and Human Rights. A “Celebratio­n of Life” will be hosted by his family and People First Nova Scotia from 1-5 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, at Truro Lion’s Club, 1100 Prince Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Dave’s memory to People First Nova Scotia or Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n, Colchester East Hants Branch are welcomed.
