Knights of Columbus launches unique fundraiser

- SPECIAL TO THE TRURO NEWS

The local Truro Knights of Columbus – Council 6633 continues to support the community in many ways, particularly this time of year.

The Knights have delivered more than 60 coats this year to kids in need. As well, they grow and deliver more than 20,000 pounds of food, with the help of the Old Barns men’s club, to the Truro Food bank – 23,000 pounds in 2018. Also, they contribute to Guatemala families by purchasing stoves each year.

The Knights host an annual local and provincial free-throw contest for hundreds of local children and provide all participants with awards, pizza and pop. There are many other behind-the-scene donations through the Saint Vincent De Paul charity and other local charitable groups.

All money raised by the Knights is used for charity and this year they are pleased to announce the 2019 Cash Calendar fundraising effort, which will allow them to help the community even more in 2019.

With the assistance of Truro Atlantic Superstore, they are now selling 1,000 cash calendars for $20 each. The calendars are sponsored by local businesses and each is unique, in that they are a ticket into a daily draw.

More than $27,000 in prizes will be distributed through six provincial Knights of Columbus councils as follows: 365 daily prizes of $50; eight monthly prizes of $150; four extra monthly prizes of $200, $300, $400 and $500; and one grand prize of $5,000, drawn for on Nov 30, 2019. There are less than 700 calendars left for sale so to have fun and contribute to a good cause, calendars can be purchased at the courtesy desk of the Truro Atlantic Superstore or from any member of the Knights of Columbus Truro Council.
