Boys choir will be premiering award-winning composition
Choirs for Comfort concert is this coming Saturday at First United
TRURO, N. S. – Those who attend this year’s Choirs for Comfort will have the chance to hear the premiere of a contest-winning choral composition.
The Cantabile Boys Choir will be premiering, We are the Music Makers, by Michael Andrew Smith.
In honour of the Cantabile Boys’ Choirs’ 10th anniversary, a choral composition competition was held. A panel made up of conductors Sarah Glinz, Chris Bowman, Brenna Conrad and Ross Thompson judged the entries.
“We considered the musicality and selected the one we thought would fit the boys’ choir best,” said Glinz. “We all did it separately and had no idea who the composers were.”
Smith, a music educator in Saint John, N.B., often writes music and arrangements for his students and his church. He will be in Truro to hear his winning composition performed at the 15th Annual Choirs for Comfort concert, which is being held at First United Church at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 9. (Please note, incorrect information appeared in a story a week ago.)
Choirs performing this year include the Brookfield/hilden Combined Elementary School Choir, CEC Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Cantabile Boys’ Choir, Cantabile Singers, Cantabile Impact!, Cantabile Truro Youth Singers, Central Colchester Junior High School Choir, Creative Voices, First Baptist Girls’ Choir, First United Church Choir, and Tatamagouche Area Singers.
Free will donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to Colchester Food Bank.
