Nova Scotians respond to food drive effort

-

To the editor:

We recently spoke to Joe, the store manager at Truro Superstore, to share some exciting news.

This year’s Loblaw Holiday Food Drive was a banner year, raising an incredible $171,000 and more than 12,000 kilograms of food across Nova Scotia for local food banks and his store was part of that.

You could feel his pride in the results as he talked about their team’s commitment to the cause and their big-hearted, community-minded customers who rose to the challenge to donate.

This success was replicated at Atlantic Superstore, No Frills, and Independent locations across the province. Superstore staff and customers joined forces to achieve a very meaningful goal: To give their neighbours a little comfort at Christmas and throughout the new year.

Food and funds raised through this campaign help our network of 145 member agencies from one end of the province to the other provide food support to families and individuals reaching out for assistance. Donations also support efforts to raise awareness of the issues deep at the root of food insecurity and push for change.

Hats off to you, Atlantic Superstore, and everyone who kept Nova Scotians struggling to put food on the table in their hearts and on their minds while grocery shopping in December. Your impact will be felt long into 2019. Nick Jennery,
