Truro Long John Festival being held Feb. 15-18

TRURO, N.S. – A variety of winter activities will be offered during the 2019 Truro Long John Festival. The event begins Friday, Feb. 15 and ends the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 18.

Friday, Feb 15

All Day: Mayor’s Challenge: Wear your Long Johns to work.

Feb. 15-17: Curling Junior Slam Series at the Truro Curling Club.

Noon – 2 p.m.: Free adult pickleball, Douglas Street Recreation Centre.

1– 2:30 p.m.: Free adult recreation­al skate, Colchester Legion Stadium.

5 – 8 p.m.: Free Long John Festival Kick-off at the Civic Square. The kick-off includes musical entertainm­ent, horse and wagon rides, refreshmen­ts and skating.

6 – 7 p.m.: Free family skate at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex, Brookfield

6 – 10 p.m.: 2nd Annual Inglis Street Invitation­al Ski and Snowboard Rail Jam

7 p.m.: Truro Bearcats junior A hockey game against Summerside at the Rath-eastlink Community Centre. Buy a ticket to Friday night’s game and get a free ticket for Saturday night’s home game against South Shore, 7 p.m.

7:30 p.m.: Carson Downey acoustic show at the Marigold Cultural Centre. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $32

Saturday, Feb.16

10 – 11:30 a.m.: Free intermedia­te snowshoein­g/ Meet at Truro Junior High.

10 a.m. – noon: Free archery 3D shoot/ Millbrook Gym.

10 a.m. – noon: At the Civic Square: Free wagon rides, entertainm­ent, skating, snow sculpture building, refreshmen­ts.

2 – 4 p.m.: Free rock climbing at the Rath-eastlink Community Centre.

7 p.m.: Truro Bearcats Game against South Shore, Rath-eastlink Community Centre. Free Memorial Skate with the Bearcats following the game.

Sunday, Feb. 17

10 a.m. – noon.: Group Fat Bike ride/ Meet at Railyard.

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: Seniors snowshoe- Meet at Truro Junior High.

1– 2:20 p.m.: Free family skate/ Colchester Legion Stadium - Free hot chocolate provided by Third Place Transition House for Family Violence Prevention Week.

1 – 3 p.m.: Free family skate/ Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

1 – 3 p.m.: Free snow snake game/ Millbrook Powwow Grounds.

3 – 5 p.m.: Free archery/ snowshoe biathlon/ Millbrook Powwow Grounds/ John B Trail - Pre-registrati­on is required - Contact Gordon at 902-986-8447 to register.

4 – 5 p.m.: Free family skate/don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.

8 – 9 p.m.: Learn to Skate/ Colchester Legion Stadium - $5 drop in.

Monday, Feb. 18

10 a.m. – noon: Free sledge hockey drop in/ Colchester Legion Stadium.

10 a.m. – noon: Free family swim/ Rath-eastlink Community Centre; available to the first 150 swimmers.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Free sledding party/ Legion Hill.

1 – 2 p.m.: Free preschool skate/ Colchester Legion Stadium .

2 – 3 p.m.: Free seniors skate/ Colchester Legion Stadium.

2 – 5 p.m.: Free Cougar Dome open house/ Cougar Dome.

* Some activities are weather permitting.
