Right the ship

It just seems that the Truro Bearcats have arrived at a different place.

For sure, being on the wrong side of three consecutive shutouts is unfamiliar ground for the Bearcats and clearly an uncomfortable one.

But, it is what it is. You can’t deny the obvious nor defend the indefensible.

In the Amherst game, the Bearcats came out of the first period down a goal despite a strong effort, however, the Rambler onslaught was too much from that point on.

The scoring drought, which started in the third period of the Jan. 19 game, ended in Bridgewater last Thursday. That dearth needed ending.

In that game the Bearcats and Lumberjacks battled hard. The host won the shootout but Truro scored and earned a point – relief.

Saturday, at home, they saw a first period lead disappear. Both teams had their chances but the Lumberjacks did a better job capitalizing.

January was Truro’s busiest month of the schedule with 11 games played. They won four of seven at home. While on the road they picked up one win and points in two others via a OT loss and SO loss.

That’s 12 of a possible 24 points available. They kept their heads above water but others are clearly honed in on their third-spot placing.

The Bearcats come into this week with 10 regular season games remaining. At this time of year there are no easy schedules.

They play four at home and six on the road. This week they prepare for Valley, Friday at the RECC (7 p.m.), then travel to Yarmouth Sunday to face the Mariners.

Valley moved their experienced veterans at the trade deadline. The Wildcats opted to go young and get a head start on building for next year and are prepared to play the role of spoilers.

The Mariners have been tough on the Bearcats all season, but they, too, can be vulnerable. No teams can relax.

The Bearcats have had a rough stretch but easily could have been victors in the last two. They have to find the tipping point.
