Truro’s ‘Heal Your Heart With Art’ holding online auction

TRURO, N. S. – Jackie Waugh and Cinda Willigar have combined their efforts to set up an online auction.

The event will raise funds to maintain the Heal Your Heart With Art program, which helps women who have experienced some type of relationship abuse and trauma.

“Normally, our funding came from the county,” said Willigar, a women’s support counsellor at Third Place Transition House. “We’re grateful for that, but both times we were there, there were so many groups making requests.”

The art program started in June 2017 and has received funding from the county twice, once for $5,000 and once for $2,500.

Waugh, who is a domestic abuse survivor, found painting helped her heal from trauma. She runs the art program, encouraging women to express themselves and paint whatever they want.

“It feels so much more rewarding if we raise the funds on our own,” she said. “There’s no doubt the ladies want it to keep going.”

The program currently runs bi-weekly and $5,000 will keep it going for a year.

Waugh was involved, as an artist, with Artists in Harmony, which auctioned decorated musical instruments to raise money for charity.

“I haven’t run one of these before, but we’ll give it a try,” she said. “We’re getting some really nice things for the auction.”

Individuals and businesses have already donated several items including jewelry, orna- ments, teas, clothing, gift certificates and artwork.

The auction runs March 9-17 at Online Auction for Heal Your Heart With Art ( https://www. facebook.com/online-auctionfor-heal-your-heart-withArt-391284018305319/ ).

Anyone with items to donate can message through Facebook or call Third Place Transition House at 902-893-4844.

Monetary Donations can be made via email transfer to hyhwadonations@gmail.com . Donations can be made by credit card at http://www.thirdplaceth.ca/. Please add a comment stating the donation is for the HYHWA.
